Mike Gaffaney
Club Director & Head Coach / Player Development / Recruiting Coordinator
Mike is the current Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Northwest Christian University. His coaching carrer spans over 17 years at the collegiate, club, and high school levels. His club and high school teams have earned state and national championship appearances, with many of his players continuing on to play at the college level. He was awarded 3 high school coach of the year awards and has help develop youth sports opportunities through the community service and philanthropy. Mike earned his undergraduate degree at UCLA where he was a member of the Men’s Volleyball Team, and received his graduate degree in Athletic Administration at Seattle Pacific University. In 2004 Mike joined the SWVC coaching team, at both the 16′s and 18′s level. He is the former General Manager at Eugene Swim and Tennis Club and continues consulting in the private club industry. He has also held positions in the club industry as Athletic Director and Fitness Director. Mike has conducted and coordinated player camps, clinics, and seminars for both student athletes and coaches. He has also assisted at the UO, UCLA, WSU, and Nike volleyball camps, in addition to being the Director of the NCU Volleyball Camp.
Shel Kaiser
Co-Director & Coach
No stranger to the local volleyball scene, Kaiser has been playing and coaching in various capacities throughout lane county for the better part of 30 years. Shel is one of the co-founder of SWVC and now coaches the daughters of former players! Shel had a two-year stint as an assistant with the University of Oregon, helping to guide the Ducks to back-to-back NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in 2007 and 2008. He has also coached at Lane Community College, Sheldon High School, and Triangle Lake. He is still an active player in the US Volleyball Association Senior division. In 2007, at the age of 75, he was a member of the USVBA All-Tournament team, and was named the MVP. He has won nine gold medals, 11 silver and 9 bronze in age group men’s USAV National Events. Shel is currently an Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach at Northwest Christian University.
Gary Meininger
Head Coach
Gary is a veteran of over 31 year of coaching at the high school and middle school; 7 years as Varsity Head Volleyball Coach at Junction City High School. Gary was awarded coach of the year in 2006 / Sky-Em League. He has also assisted at the UO volleyball camp for the past 3 years. He was a collegiate athlete as a member of the PLU Wrestling and Golf teams. Gary graduated from Oak Harbor High School in Washington State and has his college degree in Physical Education. Gary has coached both at the 14′s and 16′s club levels and has been a member of the Oregon Coaches Association for 31 years. In his off time, Coach Meininger enjoys fly fishing and racquetball. His favorite color is purple (due to the fact he attended UW), loves watching the food network and will die for good Mexican food!
Andrea Hansen-Miller
Coach
Andrea is currently the Assistant Varsity and Head JV Coach at Pleasant Hill High School. Her coaching career also includes being the Assistant Coach at Macalester College and Head Coach with the Mizuno Minnesota One (M1) Volleyball Club (2 seasons) 16′s that qualified for the USAV Nationals in Miami. Andrea is an accomplished player and was a member of the Michigan State University (’03-’05), and Macalester College (’05-’07) where she lead the conference in aces, hitting percentage, kills, and blocks. Andrea also was selected All-Conference Academic honors, and All-American Honorable Mention in 2006. At Macalester College Andrea earned her degree in English and American Studies. Andrea’s favorite color is Cerulean and her favorite TV show is “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. Her favorite food is cheesy potatoes!
Rachel Morris
Coach
Rachel Morris, from Manhattan Beach, California. Grew up playing volleyball on the beach in front of her house with her brother and father. She has played volleyball competitively indoors since she was 8 years old. A 2007 graduate of Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, California where she was a standout setter for the Mustangs. Rachel played club volleyball Golden West and SCVC, South Bay and Hot Shots where she won 2 silver medals in the Junior Olympic games, both held in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a very successful beach player as well, where she won many tournaments and traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to play in the AAU Junior Olympic Games and ended up winning. Rachel was a member of the University of Oregon Women’s Volleyball Team as a setter and is a sociology major and plans to go to the Peach Corps or something along those lines after she graduates. Other than volleyball she enjoys football, soccer, basketball, spending time with her family and friends and being at home at the beach in the warm weather.
Brooke Stribling
Coach
Brooke is currently an assistant coach with the Northwest Christian University volleyball program. Stribling completed a very successful playing career with the Beacons. Over three years, Stribling became NCU’s all-time leader with 870 kills. She was a two-time All-CCC Honorable Mention as well as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete selection. Stribling was also selected as the Northwest Christian University female Athlete of the Year in 2009. Brooke graduated from NCU in 2009 with a degree in Accounting. She currently works as a tax accountant with Houck Evarts & Company.
Alicia Sells
Coach
Alicia begins her second year with SWVC where she coaches our 14U team during the ’09 season. She has also coached at O’Hara Middle School 7th & 8th grades along with coaching at the NCU and Creswell summer youth volleyball camps. Alicia graduated from Creswell High School where she was a stand out setter on the varsity team. Her playing experience also included 3 seasons playing at the 16U and 18U levels for SWVC. Alicia is continuing her education at Lane Community College and works for JCPenny. Her favorite color is blue, likes watching One Tree Hill, and her favorite food is… just about any food!
